The Mark of the Beast

October 1, 2007

Dear Friend,

I am not sure why I should be opposed to Biometric identification cards. I'm speaking as a Christian, of course. If the only thing an ID card does is establish who I am, well, I carry my face with me everywhere I go. Never mind that I carry a driver's license with a picture of my face everywhere I go--a picture that hardly looks like me any longer.

One British website's number one objection seemed to be how much the ID system would cost. That is reasonable, but then I have to ask how much 911 cost this country. And how much would it cost Britain to have a nuclear device detonated in London? Now they did go on to talk about what they called "The Database Society," and it is evident that what they are increasingly alarmed about is a radical increase in government power.

The government already has more power than I like to think about, and it becomes a little chilling to look at what is already underway in England.

      Currently the planned systems include:

  • So-called "biometric" ePassports that log data about your travel when used
  • Centralised medical records without privacy
  • Biometrics in schools
  • ID interrogations centers
  • Fingerprinting in pubs
  • The Children's Act "Information Sharing Index"
  • Roadside fingerprinting--using new police powers to check identity
  • Massively increased criminal records bureau checks for employees
  • Recording of all car journeys as a matter of course

Personally, I don't care very much if the government knows where I drive my car. Nor if a policeman is able to confirm my identity. In fact, I have a good friend to whom that would have been a positive boon. It would have saved a trip to the police station because of mistaken identity. Then there are the criminal records bureau checks. If you are a landlord, it would be useful to know if a prospective tenant had been convicted of check fraud--or if the person was a registered sex offender.

Now if you are a Bible reader, there may be one other kind of ID that has come to mind. It is called The Mark of the Beast. Much has been written about this mysterious mark. An Internet search for an exact match brought back over half a million web pages on this topic. It is amazing how much can be written about a topic with so little information in the pages of the Bible.

Space won't permit me to go there in this letter, but I have a half hour audio presentation called The Mark of the Beast that will help enormously in sorting out what can be known about it. To get a straightforward explanation of the issues surrounding The Mark of the Beast click here to listen to my presentation.

Keep in touch, and God bless,
